April A to Z Challenge - All the Amys

I am Amy Elizabeth. My great-grandmother is Amy Elizabeth. Her mother was Amy Alma. And her mother-in-law was Amy Rosetta.

Amy Rosetta Bull, my third-great-grandmother, was born in London in the first quarter of 1870 to Walter and Harriet Bull. She was baptised in St John's Fulham on 7 April 1870 by the vicar, William Edmund Batty.

I have told the story of her emigration to Australia in a previous post: A Staggered Emigration - The Bull Family. Amy Rosetta Bull married John James Weatherstone on 1 June 1890 at the Congregational Church in Manly, NSW. The church is still there, a beautiful sandstone building nestled on the corner of Sydney Road and Whistler Street in the heart of Manly.

John James Weatherstone died on 5 January 1944 and was buried in the Anglican section of Sandgate Cemetery on 9 January 1944. Amy Rosetta remarried George Adolphus Parsons in 1946, but when she passed away she was buried in the same plot with John James Weatherstone on 28 March 1949.

One of their sons, John James Alfred Weatherstone, who was born on 18 January 1903 in Wickham, NSW, married Amy Alma Wardley on 19 June 1922 in the Methodist Church in Boolaroo, NSW. They were my second-great-grandparents. Amy Alma Wardley was born on 27 July 1901 in Boolaroo to Charles Wardley and Elizabeth Caroline Ellen Rufford.

John James Alfred Weatherstone died on 25 August 1983 and was buried in the Uniting Church section of the Toronto Cemetery. Amy Alma outlived him for another 14 years, passing away on 18 November 1997, and buried with her husband. I was immensely privileged to know my second-great-grandmother - in fact, until her death there were five generations of women alive, three of them named "Amy".

John James Alfred Weatherstone and Amy Alma Wardley's daughter, Amy Elizabeth Weatherstone, my great-grandmother, was born in 1923. She married Robert William John Campbell on 8 August 1942 in Boolaroo. Robert William John Campbell was born on 19 July 1921 to Robert Robinson Campbell and Christina Purdie Suttie. He sadly passed away on 13 July 1992.

Then there is me, and at least for now, the last "Amy".
